But no need to excuse yourself. The unfortunate-sounding acronym “ERP”* stands for “Enterprise Resource Planning.” This, in my opinion, is also an unfortunate description. What is an ERP system, what does it do, and why should you care?

A couple of weeks ago, I was waiting in the check-out line at one of my favorite retailers here in Seattle when the lady in front of me asked a question of the clerk that caught me slightly off guard. She did not want to use the electronic card scanner and pin pad, but still wanted to pay by credit card—the old way. The clerk, not sure how to address this, called over his manager.

In 2000, respected technology consultant Randy Collins purchased the company, and has been instrumental in helping the company grow during the past 15 years. Original Strategies Group founder Pat Chappell and thirty-year industry veteran Ron Smith recently joined the company when it was beginning discussions with Dexter + Chaney.
