Air Conditioning Unit Service Construction Contractors

As a professional in your field, you know that there will always be other businesses competing for the same project or selling a similar product. While the end result may be the same from business to business, the path to the finished project is something that can vary greatly. And that is what can make a difference with both your company’s reputation and revenues.

Company’s First Impression - Dexter + Chaney

Since you’re reading this blog, you might have noticed that Dexter + Chaney has a brand new website. Aside from a cleaner look, the new website is much easier to navigate and is loaded with new features and resources for both our Spectrum® Construction Software and the construction industry as a whole. The site was a ready for an upgrade, one focusing on a user experience more closely mirroring the leading-edge technology Dexter + Chaney has been producing.

It’s one of those things we all dread. Something goes horribly wrong on a project. Perhaps an accident where proper safety regulations were not adhered to. Maybe it’s a subcontractor that says he never got his set of plans or is missing a vital piece of project information and now is weeks behind schedule. It could be a heated debate about an unpaid invoice and work not done properly that stops a project in its tracks until it’s sorted out.

BYOD: Bring Your Own Common Sense - Mobile Construction Management

Last week I was attending an industry conference where one of the keynote speakers was Mr. James Benham, CEO of JBKnowledge, Inc. James is a fellow Texas A&M Aggie and a personal friend, so I made sure to sit in the front row to take advantage of any heckling opportunities that presented themselves. Despite myself, James once again had me enthralled with his vision of the pace and direction of information technology and the inevitable impact this will have on the construction industry.

Mobile Apps - Construction Software

Mobile apps are significantly changing the way we go about our everyday business. They help us work faster and smarter from anywhere. So it’s no surprise that businesses are increasingly adopting them to enhance their own operations. If you’re a contractor and you’re not using mobile apps now, think about this—your competitors probably are. Don’t get left in the dust. Here are three key reasons to go mobile.

Home Building Software

Overall growth in the construction industry indicates now is the time for contractors to take advantage of an improving economy to expand their business. Whether their market is retail, warehouse or lodging–where growth is expected to be strong—or in a segment that relies on federal funding like marine or direct federal construction—where forecasts are less optimistic—finding and retaining qualified people can be a challenge. Who would have thought that the downside of an improving economy would be a workforce shortage? Yet that’s exactly what contractors across the country are faced with as the industry prepares to hire again.

Practical Magic - Web Based Construction Industry Software

Before I co-founded Dexter + Chaney in 1981 with my friend and colleague Mark Dexter, we both worked for a consulting company. It was far from the norm for our construction clients back then to have computers in the office, let alone at their job sites. After we left the firm to start Dexter + Chaney and develop construction software, this remained the case throughout much of the early years of our business. I even recall a marketing pamphlet we created titled “Why Your Contracting Business Could Use a Computer.” Or something along those lines.

Online marketing can be inherently difficult in certain industries, construction being one of them. Marketing the stellar work your construction company does may not be as sexy as unveiling the latest iPhone, but with the right approach, you can tell a story that is compelling and relevant to your target audience.

Top Construction Software

Last week, we held our 19th annual Connect Users’ Conference. It’s a humbling experience to have hundreds of attendees converge at our Seattle venue. Many traveled from across the country to spend a few days with us learning about our software, so we worked hard to make the experience worth everyone’s time, effort and expense.
