Founded in 1981, Seattle-based Dexter + Chaney supplies the construction industry with construction software for business and operations. After working on a large maritime construction project involving pricing change orders and markups at Arthur Andersen (now Accenture), founders Mark Dexter and John Chaney felt there had to be an alternative to the manual processes they were using. From the spare bedroom of Dexter’s apartment, they began using the emerging technology of electronic spreadsheets to create a custom solution for the construction industry. Thirty years later, Dexter + Chaney continues to deliver solutions to the construction industry using the latest emerging technologies.
Today, Dexter + Chaney has thousands of clients using their software to manage all aspects of their businesses from accounting to project management. Throughout its history, the company has been committed to two principles: Customers for life, and leading edge technology. Dexter + Chaney clients never have to repurchase software, even when significant upgrades are made.
And as technology has improved, Dexter + Chaney has remained agile, applying these new technologies to its software without sacrificing functionality. Most recently, Dexter + Chaney has become the first construction company to deliver complete construction management software using true cloud-based technology with an intuitive web browser interface. Customers no longer need to load or maintain any client applications and can access their software using any Internet-connected device with a browser from anywhere they are working. Companies can chose to deploy the software themselves in a private cloud or let Dexter + Chaney provide the hosting, completely freeing them from any IT or hardware requirements.

Dexter + Chaney has received many awards over the years, most recently winning the 2012 Hanley Wood Most Innovative Product Award for its Venture product and the Construction Executive 2013 Hot Product Award for its newly redesigned Spectrum Project Management application. Previous awards include multiple inclusions in Software magazine’s Top 500 and Washington State’s Technology Fast 50.
